A portable air conditioner is a fairly large unit that has 1 or more hoses attached to it and may have wheels at the base of the unit. The hose will be placed in a window to blow out the hot air (exhaust). Take a look at the picture below to see how portable air conditioners work.
One of the main advantages of having a portable a/c is that you can move it from room to room as needed and won't need a HVAC technician to install it as you would a window or central unit.
One of the major disadvantages is that it cost more to operate than a window unit and also cost more to purchase. They can only cool small rooms while window a/c units can cool larger rooms. Another disadvantage is that you need to empty the water tank often.
If you are looking to purchase a portable unit make sure you read our article on what to look for when purchasing a portable a/c unit
and get the most for your money.

Changing the air filter for your heating and air conditioning units is one of the most important things you can do to help keep the units working properly and prolong the life of your unit. The air filter protects your system by collecting the dust and other particles inside your home and also keeps them from re-entering the home.
If the air filter isn't replaced on a regular basis this could lead to more wear and tear on your unit as it works harder trying to get enough air to the system. This is why it should be changed at least every 3 months
and more in some cases such as:
- Someone with allergies lives in the home
- A person smokes in the home
- Large family
- Pets in the home
- There has been some construction in the home recently
- An unusual amount of dust in the home
- You have been using your A/C or heater more frequently
To replace your air filter you should refer to your equipment manual as it will show you where the access panel is and how to replace it. If you need help changing your filter or having other issues with the air quality in your home contact us

We have broken down the tips into different categories from kitchen, bathroom, outside and inside the home. We tried to add tips that are easy to do like soaking your pots and pans before cleaning them.
